Mumbai, NFAPost: Narora Atomic Power Station (NAPS) unit 2 has completed 731 days of continuous operation as on Tuesday.

With this, it has achieved a distinction of being operational for 2 years and is the fourth reactor do so. KGS unit-1 has set a world record of continuous operation of 962 days.

NAPS is operated by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). Currently, NPCIL operates 22 reactors with installed capacity of 6780 MW.

The NAOS-2 in a pressurized heavy-water reactor (PHWR), with 220MW capacity, designed by Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). Additionally, a 700 MW capacity PHWR unit-3 at Kakrapar is the largest indigenous reactor that has achieved criticality recently.

Further, 7 other reactors with a combined capacity of 550 MW are under construction. Work has also commenced on 12 more reactors with 9000 MW capacity.
